Going mobile

Remember the good old Nokia 3310 that most of us used to have once upon a time?

A simple piece of device, simple in design, yet sturdy, and it did helped enhanced communications back in the early 2000. It allowed us to call home without having to purchase Phonecards and to continuously hunt for public phones that reek of people's breath, and that's also when the age of short-messaging-service was born.

Today, these technologies have definitely improved our daily communications with friends and families, especially for me and my parents.

My phone has been quite a distraction recently, considering that most phones these days do not just serve one basic function of communication. There's the ability to access the online web, taking simple pictures, listening to music and playing mobile java games on the phone.

The latter has been cause of my breaks in between my study sessions. Sometimes when information tends to overload one's brain, a simple game on my cellphone can be quite a stress reliever.

I thought I could have a change of phone, or help my dear get a new cellphone. But, my Dad used my existing mobile line plan, and he extended my plan so he could have a Handset upgrade for himself. SIAN DIAO!!

Im speechless. haha. Guess I'll have to find alternatives.

Nono, im not angry. Im just amused at the ideas my dad can have in order to get phones for himself. haha. Still loving my dad the same :)

Auxotrophic babies

There's always perspectives. And it's up to an individual to choose which side of the coin he/she chooses to side on. Working in pairs in any given biology experiment can be advantages, considering one partner can assume the role of a supervisor, and perform immediate quality checks on his partner, just in case if any mistakes are made. And if there are, it can be immediately identified and the appropriate corrective measures be taken asap.

Each partner may take turns to carry out certain procedures, but there comes some risk that if one partner performed some key step wrongly, his partner would unfortunately suffer the fatal consequnences too.

Today's lab was challenging, quite a number of tasks, including DNA extraction, agar platings, blah blah. I know Lie Cong mentioned that i've said this too many times but i'll nag about this point again, NS can really cause one's brain to rust! Haha.

At least 2 other course mates whom walked past me asked me the following;

"You're doing today's experiment by yourself??"

They were rather surprised by my answer and one did offered help if I needed any. Thank God for samaritans. I really appreciate it :)

Looking on the positive side tonight, Victor wasn't around today due to work commitments i guess, and I take this as a perfect opportunity to work alone and improve my techniques. However there were moments when i wished I had someone beside helping, even simple tasks like labeling the correct microcentrifuge tubes and/or petri dishes. And i'm really hoping that I didnt make any mistakes man. Not that i know currently. haha.

And i'm praying for successful transformation of my Bacillus subtilis. Please grow in well the media without tryptophan! I've given you ample time to take up nucleic acid containing the Trp gene! don't let me down my little babies!

As expected, i was the last who finished everything in the lab. But oh well, does it matter? :)

Time for an early night!

Another Step

Others thought I was dragging,
with all the dilly dally.
But it takes time and reflection,
to compose the desired melody.

More than fourteen months,
and we're standing here again.
Unanswered questions everywhere,
will the day end in pain?

It began with a lovely dinner,
infused with our honest sharing.
Through the words we exhanged,
I know you're still caring.

We spoke in love and in truth,
the air was finally cleared.
The night did not end with hurt,
just as how u initially feared.

Now the past is behind us,
resetting this journey anew.
Walking on this road with the Lord,
together with you.

Contagious laughter

A meaningful time spent on 26th september this year with my cell at the Rooftop of YMCA. It was this very cell which helped build my faith and my foundation back in my secondary school days. And as much as I am thankful for all the brothers and sisters in christ that are in my life, i do miss some of our old members who have somehow left for one reason or another.

Loved the song on Pedra Branca by Budak man. Even with some songs that we heard before, they never fail to bring out genuine laughter from each individual.

Happy belated birthday to me. haha.

"Wished you were there too..."

Dazed

Woo!! My birthday presents I received this year included strands of white hairs! With initial frequency of 2 tuition sessions a week, up to 5-7 times a week, I wonder how much rest the kids are receiving each day. And we haven't factor in the daily school cirriculum, supplementary lessons, chinese tuition, and lessons from another 3rd tutor.

I would think our primary roles in tuition (for my case that is) are to supervise the kids, rather than being educators. These kids are bright, and i guess they could just be lacking the self motivation to do their own revision and have the need for someone to seat with them for work to be done.

But with 3 tutors continuously? There's an aura of lethargy radiating from the poor kids whenever i step into the house.

But thankfully, the PSLE has ended, and i pray that his effort will reflect on that certificate in a month's time. I hope.
